During their first coordinator's meeting today, the Committee of inquiry into Emission Measurements in the Automotive Sector (EMIS) has announced ALDE MEP Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy as Co-rapporteur, together with Zalba Bidegain (EPP).
“All the revelations on 'dieselgate' show the need for a parliamentary inquiry into this scandal. People have the right to know what the role of some Member States and the Commission was in the tampering with the emission standards for cars."
"Through public hearings administrators and politicians will be held accountable. There are many questions that need to be answered. We need to know why governments and the Commission did not intervene. What lessons can be learned from the failure to enforce EU laws on car emissions?”
The inquiry committee shall last twelve months to investigate alleged contraventions of European Union law and alleged maladministration in the application of Union law that led to the recent ''diesel gate scandal".
