Jonathan Hill and Frans Timmermans hearings
- The British and Dutch nominees for the next European Commission have been undergoing pre-confirmation hearings with MEPs
- The UK's Lord Hill has faced the
Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee for a second time, having failed
to win its support first time round
- The Dutch nominee, Frans Timmermans, has been appointed to the new role of First Vice-President of the Commission
- Mr Timmermans has been facing
scrutiny from an Open Conference of Presidents, a special committee that
all MEPs are invited to attend
- After the hearings, the MEPs will produce separate reports on their performances
- The Commission as a whole then
needs to get a vote of approval from the European Parliament, currently
scheduled for the end of this month
